These initiatives focus on improving waste management practices and reducing marine litter in line with local priorities. Continuous technical support and capacity-building are provided to UoMs and their local partners to ensure effective implementation, community engagement, and the long-term sustainability of the interventions.<\/p><p>In addition, a national awareness campaign is launched in Lebanon to tackle the growing challenges of solid waste and marine litter. The campaign aims to drive behavioural change and mobilise communities to reduce their plastic footprint and prevent waste from reaching the sea. To reach diverse audiences across the country, a range of outreach materials were produced \u2014 including an animated video highlighting the impact of plastic leakage on marine life and public health, a series of billboards to boost project visibility, and targeted social media content to promote key project Surveillance cameras were installed to support municipal police in monitoring coastal dumping violations. Coastal clean-ups were organized with volunteer support, in addition to street clean-up campaign in the 14 villages of the UoM. The intervention included the distribution of 45 sorting bins localized in 45 recycling drop centers, and 40 steel dumpsters, as well as the deployment of customized collection schedules. School-based awareness activities in 25 institutions are complemented by media outreach campaigns and distribution of 1500 cardboard recycling bins. Collected sorted recyclables were sold to the private sector. Revenue generated will be invested into a green fund supporting projects such as public space greening and street lighting. An environmental consultant developed and delivered two training modules and facilitated Training\u2011of\u2011Trainers sessions in June 2025, resulting in the formation of an 11\u2011member Local Environmental Committee that implemented 11 awareness sessions reaching 194 participants (including youth, women, IDPs, municipal staff and students) and delivered tailored training to staff from four local restaurants to monitor and reduce plastic use. Field interventions included 12 consecutive beach clean\u2011up days (31 July\u201311 August 2025) across six principal sites, which removed 198 bags (approximately 194 kg) of plastic waste, and four seabed\u2011cleaning dives conducted by Lebanon Diving Center to remove underwater litter.
