\u00a0In August 2025, the Reducing Marine Litter in the Mediterranean through Waste Wise Cities Lebanon (REMAL) project carried out a specialized underwater cleanup campaign along the coast of Tyre<\/span><\/span>, supporting local efforts to protect marine ecosystems and improve coastal cleanliness.<\/p>

The activity took place over four days and covered priority marine areas near Tyre Public Beach and adjacent coastal waters within the Union of Tyre Municipalities<\/strong>. Working in partnership with Lebanon Diving Center (Al Jundi)<\/span><\/span>, trained divers conducted a series of seabed cleaning operations to recover litter accumulated beneath the water surface.<\/p>

During four separate diving missions, waste materials were identified, collected, sorted, and safely brought ashore for proper handling. The intervention contributed to the cleanup of approximately 21,000 square metres<\/strong> of underwater area, helping remove debris that can damage marine habitats, threaten wildlife, and reduce the environmental quality of public beaches.<\/p>

The campaign also served as an important awareness initiative by drawing attention to marine litter that is often unseen below the waterline. By combining professional diving expertise with municipal cooperation, the activity demonstrated an effective and replicable approach to tackling coastal pollution.<\/p>

Through targeted actions such as this, REMAL continues to work with local partners to promote healthier seas, cleaner shorelines, and stronger environmental stewardship across Lebanon\u2019s coastal municipalities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
