The Reducing Marine Litter in the Mediterranean through Waste Wise Cities Lebanon (REMAL) project continued its local outreach efforts in the Al Fayhaa Union of Municipalities through a series of environmental awareness and waste reduction activities carried out between November 2025 and February 2026.

On 9 November 2025, two beach cleanup campaigns were successfully organized at the public beaches of El Mina and Qalamoun. The activities included advance planning, procurement of cleanup materials, volunteer mobilization, and close coordination with municipalities and recycling partners. By removing litter from coastal areas and engaging community members directly, the campaigns contributed to cleaner beaches while raising awareness of the impacts of marine pollution and the importance of collective environmental action.

A street cleanup campaign was conducted on 15 December 2025 in Beddawi. The initiative focused on promoting youth leadership and civic participation by partnering with local organizations and community groups that mobilized young volunteers. Through hands-on engagement in improving public spaces, participants were encouraged to take an active role in protecting their local environment and promoting responsible waste practices.

To further support long-term behavior change, Al Fayhaa Union of Municipalities also designed and produced reusable tote bags, which were distributed  across the four targeted municipalities. The tote bags were developed as both a practical awareness tool and a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bags. Featuring key environmental messages on waste reduction, reuse, and sustainable lifestyles, the bags were distributed to students in public and private schools involved in awareness sessions, as well as beneficiaries from local NGOs, particularly women’s groups.
